H-L doubles up on wins to sweep Buckeye Central, Lakota off mat

BASCOM — Four Hopewell-Loudon wrestlers went 2-0 in head-to-head competition and five others picked up two wins with the help of forfeits Monday as the Chieftains swept a pair of matches from Lakota and Buckeye Central.
The Chieftains (2-0) blasted Buckeye Central 60-0 and beat Lakota 49-15, while Lakota downed the Bucks 29-7. Chieftains Brandon Reinhart at 112 and 275-pounder Brandon Ruhlen both got their wins by pin. Reinhart stuck Buckeye Central’s Luke Nye in 1:47 and Lakota’s Tom Anderson in 19 seconds while Ruhlen pinned Buckeye Central’s Jeff Niedermier in 1:12 and Lakota’s D.J. Martin in 1:02. Clay Chapman earned a 4-2 win over Buckeye Central’s Marcus Roll at 160 and downed Kyle Klotz of Lakota 10-3. Adam Kessler followed at 171 by beating Troy Stockmaster of Buckeye Central 14-6 and Lakota’s Jimmy Shultz 13-5. The other multiple wins for H-L came from 119-pounder Tommy Halcomb, Brandon Walter at 125, Zach Schalk at 130, Daniel Kuzma at 135 and Dan Gerritsen at 140 and 145. Halcomb and Walter each had two forfeit wins while the others each had a forfeit and a win. Against Buckeye Central, Schalk pinned Jeremy Karl (1:13) and Gerritsen scored a 25-10 technical fall over Brandon Gregg at 145. Kuzma pinned Mike Redieck (2:30) of Lakota. Lakota (1-1) also had three multiple winners in Curt Lowery at 152, Tony Brown at 189 and Jake Powers at 215. Lowery beat Gregg of Lakota 8-3 and had a forfeit win against H-L. Brown pinned H-L’s Shawn McGrain (:29) and scored a 21-6 technical fall win over Buckeye Central’s David Green. Powers beat H-L’s Scott Gerritsen 8-2 and pinned BC’s Jason Niedermier (:47). Lakota’s Chris Bear earned a 17-0 technical fall win in junior varsity action against Buckeye Central’s Ryan Utz.
