Maryell L. Hartman, 90, formerly of West Millgrove, resident of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home died Saturday morning April 12, 2014, at the nursing home.
She was born March 9, 1924, in Hancock County to Walter and Marie (Wooster) Nau.
Lester C. Hartman on June 15, 1943, in Tiro, Ohio, he died on March 28, 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Alice (Edward) Haldeman of Riverview, Fla., and Lynette (James) Beat of Findlay; brother, John C. Nau of Fostoria; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons, Timothy and Daniel Hartman.
Maryell retired in 1984 from RCA in Findlay with over 30 years of service
She was a lifelong member of the West Independence United Methodist Church and was a 1942 graduate of Arcadia High School.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, April 16, at 1 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Steve Fisher officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and two hours prior to the services.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in West Millgrove.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Independence United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Therese Wellstein, 100, Fostoria, died 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Hospice of NW Ohio, Perrysburg.
She was born July 12, 1913, in Haunersdorf, Germany, to Johann and Anna (Berger) Kiermeier.
She married William Wellstein July 11, 1935, in Wyomissing, Penn., and he died May 22, 1995.
Surviving are two children, Steffen (Diane) Wellstein of Perrysburg and Karin (John) Doyle of Lynchburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Therese came to the United States in 1930. In early years she worked as a nanny and housekeeper for the CEO of Berkshire Knitting Mills in Reading, Penn.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and an honorary member of the Circle of Mercy and The Forum.
Visitation is Thursday, April 10, 9-10 a.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Church.

Irene E. Lowery, 88, Fostoria, died 3:44 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Gibsonburg to Macey and Clara (Magrum) Hammer.
She married Donald E. Lowery June 20, 1950, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Gibsonburg, and he died Jan. 16, 2005.
Surviving are three children, Larry (Jena) Lowery and Gary (Tina) Lowery, both of Fostoria, and Linda (Steve) Faber, Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Kate Koehler, Judy Porter, Susie Miller, and Eugene, Phillip, Paul, and Carl Hammer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lowery; two sisters, Mary and Ruth Hammer; and a brother, Raymond Hammer.
Irene was a homemaker and a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its Rosary-Altar Society and memorial choir.
She had delivered meals on wheels, helped at Fostoria Sharing Kitchen, and was an active volunteer at St. Wendelin’s.  She was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Fostoria Fraternity.
Visitation is Sunday, April 6, 3-6 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will take place at 5:45 p.m.

Barbara L. Geren, 76, Fostoria, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
She was born Aug. 8, 1937, to the late William and Helen (Layton) Beach.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Geren of Fostoria; her children, Peggy (Douglas) Seel, Randy Geren, Brenda (Carey) Durbin and Gary Geren, all of Fostoria,  and grandchildren Kelly, Matthew, Katherine, Keri, Brendan and Marissa.
Barbara worked for Textron making airplane blades.
She enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling, square dancing, playing bingo and working on puzzles. Having family over for swimming in the pool gave her the most enjoyment. Her favorite music was country and enjoyed spending time with special friends, Dave and Carol Pope.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria.
A funeral service will take place at the funeral home, Thursday,  April 3, at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Doris E. Scherger, 96, Fostoria, died at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Independence House, Fostoria.
She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Waterville to Leroy and Mary (Crone) Shultz.
She married Ralph Ludwig and they divorced. She then married Charles J. Scherger July 19, 1947, at High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria and he died June 1, 2009.
Surviving are three children, Marvin (Rose) Ludwig, Charles A. (Teresa) Scherger and Jeff (Renee) Scherger, all of Fostoria; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren;  and two sisters, Maryann Fry, Fostoria and Lorna Clem, Tiffin.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Bob Ludwig; daughter, Ellen M. Scherger; grandson, Rob Ludwig; five sisters, Jean Kenyon, Winifred Fuller, Helen Shultz, Glennis Shultz and Marie Baumbarger; and six brothers, James R., John J., Albert D., Wilber L., Leroy and George Shultz.
Doris had been a nurse’s aide at Fostoria City Hospital. She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and a former member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Liberty.
She was an active member and attended the Nursing Nightingale monthly meetings. She enjoyed collecting antique dolls and was a member of the Sandusky River Doll Club. She loved spending…

Roger Dale Smith, 65, Fostoria, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 18, 1948, to the late Marion Dale Smith and Jacquelin M. (Brooker) Margraf.
He married Ruth (Haubert) Smith on March 17, 1978, in Tiffin and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Rusty Smith, Wayne Smith, Tina Redford, and Tara (fianceé Jason Tuttle) Smith, all of Fostoria, and Brian Smith, Upper Sandusky; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and stepbrothers, Mike (Peg) Margraf, Joe (Kathy) Margraf and Steve (Connie) Margraf.
He liked hunting, camping, trap shooting, archery, four-wheeling and spending time with family and friends.
He worked for Roppe Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 2000.
Memorial visitation was Sunday, March 23, at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Darrell H. Whetsel, 76, Fostoria, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Toledo Hospital.
He was born Jan. 14, 1938, in Cygnet to Melvin and Lillian (Short) Whetsel.
He married Luella Faye Chambers Aug. 18, 1956, in Mt. Zion Church, Wayne and she survives in  Fostoria.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cindy (Rex) Reinhart of Fostoria; Rick (Louan) Whetsel of Risingsun and Bill (Eileen) Whetsel of Fostoria; sisters, Kathy Burmeister and Rosalie Arndt; grandchildren, Candice Fought, Ashley Whetsel, Olivia Braun, and Trent and Brody Whetsel; step grandchildren, Darci Graber and Desi Holcomb; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne Whetsel; daughter, Sharon Kay Whetsel; and brothers, Ronnie and Joe Whetsel.
Darrell retired in 1996 from the city of Fostoria.
He attended Montgomery High School and was a lifetime member of the Fostoria United Sportsmen Club and Fostoria Moose Lodge.
Darrell was an avid Nascar fan and the owner of Whetsel Salvage. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Pastor Paul Rutledge officiating.

Dorothy Norris, 87, of Fostoria, died early Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
She was born Aug. 28, 1926, the daughter of Ross and Agnes (McNabb) Zeller, both of whom preceded her death.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas R. (Patricia) Norris of Hilliard and William G. (Wendy) Norris of Fostoria; grandchildren, Robert (Karen) and Gregory (Kerry) Norris of Hilliard, Carrie (Derek) Shultz of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Susan Norris of Columbus, and Kimberly (Scott) Mancino of Lake Orion, Mich.; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Norris; sister, Marie Fruth; half-sisters, Rosetta Pierson, Margaret Keifer, and Catherine Reese and one half-brother, Nelson Zeller.
Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Fostoria High School, and then later graduated with her associate’s degree in nursing from Maumee Valley School of Nursing in 1947.
She married Raymond Norris on Feb. 28, 1949, at the United Church of Christ in Fostoria.
Dorothy was a registered nurse for 30 years for Fostoria Community Hospital, retiring in 1979.  She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fostoria.  Dorothy enjoyed fishing, painting, drawing, and camping; but most of all, she loved babysitting her grandchildren…

Henry D. “Bud” Norris, 90, of Fostoria, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Findlay to Ivron and Alice (Berman) Norris, both of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta Norris of Fostoria; daughters, Sharon Ann (Steve) Umphress of Mount Blanchard, Susan Louise (Rick) Jacox of Lexington, Ohio, and Sandra Lynn Brown of Fostoria; stepchildren, Michael (Becky) Shilling of Dansville, Mich., John Shilling of Findlay, Steve (Pat) Shilling of Vanlue, Sharon (Harry) Colvin of Arcadia, and Rick (Vickie) Shilling of Findlay; his brother, Ivron J. (Barbara) Norris of Tiffin; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond G. and Duane G. Norris, and his sister Florence L. Norris.
Henry was a 1942 graduate of Hopewell Loudon High School. He married Helen Cochran in 1946.  He later married Rosetta (Ward-Shilling) Norris in Norris, Tenn., on Aug. 2, 1988.
Henry was a veteran of the US Army 30th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop and served during World War II. Henry worked at General Electric for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984.
