Lillian R. Sheets, 100, of Fostoria, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2104 at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
She was born May 29, 1914, in Tiffin to the late Raymond and Elma (Borer) Murphy. She married Ralph C. Sheets on July 16, 1938, and he preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. (Deb) Sheets and Kevin R. Sheets, both of Fostoria; three grandsons, Keith (Auera Robinson) Sheets, Aaron (Angela) Sheets, and Brett (Brittany Bushong) Sheets, and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Macey, Addison, Audrey, Emma, Tavin, Drayson, and Jayden.
Sheets was a graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School. She was an avid reader, completing books from cover to cover and newspapers from front to back in order to keep up with current events which she enjoyed sharing conversation about. She was also an avid bowler and golfer, where she accelerated in her putting skills.
She loved and adored her visits with her great-grandchildren and the special times they spent together. She had attended her great-grandson’s baseball games up until just a year ago, and of course, donning the baseball cap!

Thais “Charlotte” Fry-Tarbox, 69, of Bloomdale, passed away at her home on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.
She was born on May 19, 1945, in El Paso, Texas, to the late Peter James and Eleanor Mildred (Des Saulles) Wareing.
Surviving her are her children, Mark (Debi) Fry, Bloomdale, Becky (Dean) Kreager, Newark, Ohio, James “Wade” (Karen Arthur) Fry, Bloomdale, David Fry, Bloomdale, and Shana (Josh) Izworski, Lorain, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Brandon Stockard, Josh (Tia) Acord, Morgan Fry, Colton Kreager, Shyla Kreager, Juliana Fry, Waylon Fry, and Boden Izworski; two great-grandchildren, Ayden Fry and Hunter Acord; as well as numerous stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Wilson and Alberta Blue.
She was part of a team involved in the Fostoria Relay for Life, and enjoyed crafting and spending time with her family.
A celebration of life service is planned for a later date.

James A. Shumaker, 82, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, 2014, at his home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in West Independence, Ohio to the late Harry J. and Thelma (Martin) Shumaker. He married Marlene L. Aungst on Feb, 25, 1956, at High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria and she survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are children, Lori (Jim) Ponn, Fostoria and Mark (Diana) Shumaker, Monclova; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Harry (Karen) Shumaker, Melbourne, Florida and David (Susan) Shumaker, Duncan Mills, California. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Shumaker at infancy.
Shumaker was a 1950 Fostoria High School graduate and retired from AlliedSignal (Honeywell) in 1986, where he was a manager of automation and design.
At the time of his death, he was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and board member of Wesley Center, member of Hilltop Club, American Legion, life member of the Elks, and past member of the Flying Quail Model A Club.
He was a former member of the Fostoria Management Club, National Association of Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, several Engineering Societies and the Fostoria Exchange Club, where he was two-time president and exchangite of the year…

Jeanette E. Boas, 93, of Findlay and formerly of Fostoria, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Taylor Place in Findlay.
She was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Sandusky County to Ivory and Elma (Havens) Hummel.
She married Robert Boas on June 7, 1941, in Tiffin, and he died Sept. 11, 2001.
Boas is survived by a son, Thomas (Marlene) Boas of Brawley, California; a daughter, Sandra (Ronald) Crosser of McComb; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Blaine Hummel and Claude Hummel.
Boas was a 1938 Amsden High graduate and attended Warner School of Cosmetology in Toledo.
She worked as a beautician in Fremont and Fostoria before working 21 years at AlliedSignal, now Honeywell, in Fostoria. She retired in 1981.
Boas belonged to High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria, as well as Fostoria Chapter No. 94 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, located at 301 W. Tiffin St. in Fostoria.
Pastor Dan Phillips will officiate the funeral service Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Irene Kuhn, 87, of Fostoria, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Thursday morning, Aug. 21, 2014, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.
She was born March 20, 1927, in Whitesburg, Ky., to John and Nevada (Brown) Cook. She married Paul Kuhn in November of 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tiffin and he is deceased.
Surviving are five children, Robert P. (Pat) Kuhn, Tiffin, Sheila S. (Joe) Kromer, Carey, Linda F. (Scott) Heiden, Temperance, Mich., David L. (Debra) Kuhn, Tiffin and Theresa M. (Paul) Williams, Fostoria; son-in-law, Peter Gallagher, Fostoria; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy (Rosie) Cook, Tiffin; and a sister, Nell Nunnery, Sumter, S.C.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Jean Kuhn; daughter, Ruth Gallagher; grandson, Daniel Kuhn; three brothers, Conley, Carl and Lester Cook; and a sister, Edna Creeger.
Kuhn retired as restaurant manager of the Dark Horse, New Riegel.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Rosary-Altar Society. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed taking care of the grand and great-grandchildren.

Gail A. Holman, 62, of rural Fostoria, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 20, 1951, in Fostoria to the late Ben Merrick and Vida (Johnson) Barchus.
She married John J. Holman on May 30, 1970, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and he survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving is a son, Kenneth J. (Lisa) Holman, Fostoria; three grandchildren, Preston, Natalie and Jessica Holman; a sister, Jane (Tom) Chapman, Marysville; and two brothers, Walter (Becky) Merrick, Fremont, Indiana and Albert (Shirley) Merrick, Florida.
Holman was a homemaker and a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church.
She had worked at Bendix, Fostoria for 10 years. She was a member of the Findlay YMCA, where she enjoyed playing volleyball and swimming, and was a gifted quilt maker.
A special moment in her life was when she visited Europe, Rome, Medjugorje and Assisi.
Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 from 2-5 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 4:45 pm.

Susan B. Bartunek, 83, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Promedica Toledo Hospital, in Toledo.
She was born June 15, 1931, in Cleveland to the late Edward Lyle and Helen (King) Bates.
Surviving her are her two daughters, Kathryn King Leacock, of Lebanon, Ohio and Nancy (Dave) Carnevale, of Lewes, Delaware; and three grandchildren, Chapin Leacock, and Nate and Claire Carnevale.
Susan was a teacher and secretary for Fostoria High School, at times holding both positions simultaneously. She then served as clerk of courts for Fostoria.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fostoria where she was an Elder and member of the Presbyterian Women. She was active in assistance with Feed My Kids.
She was the first woman member of Rotary International, served on the board of the Red Cross, and on the Board of Elections as a poll worker doing voter registration. She was a past member of Business & Professional Woman, The Fostoria Education Association, The Ohio Educators Association, AAUW, and the ADK sorority.
She also volunteered at the blood bank and at Fostoria Community Hospital, as well as leading craft making at Independence House in Fostoria.

Josh Affholder, 41, of Fostoria, died Sunday morning, Aug. 17, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 13, 1973, in Fostoria.
Left to cherish his memory are his father, William “Bill” V. (Connie) Affholder Jr; son, Aden Affholder; sister, Anna Affholder; grandmother, Mary Ann Affholder, all of Fostoria; step grandparents, Ralph (Bertha) Manko of Upper Sandusky; nephew, Kaleb Affholder-Burgess of Fostoria; birth mother, Janet Zender; sisters, Windy Elchert of Fostoria and Nonnie Jan Kinn of Evansville, Indiana; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William V. Affholder Sr.
He was a 1991 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, where he played on the football team. He entered the United States Army not long after graduation and served until 1993.
Affholder worked in quality control at Morgan AM&T. He was a member of the Fostoria United Sportsmen.
He was an Ohio State fan and enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking his son, Aden, to see trains, take train rides, and play with model trains at home. This was something they truly loved to do together as father and son.

Audrey Blanche Weis

Audrey Blanche Weis, 93, of Independence House, Fostoria, Ohio passed away Aug. 16, 2014.
She was born in Curtice, Ohio, Sept. 25, 1920, to Ferdinand and Dehlia Shaneck, the fourth of nine children.
She graduated from Clay High School in 1939, where she met Henry Weis, the love of her life. They were married in College Point, New York in July 1939 during the World’s Fair.
Weis lived in College Point, New York; Lemont, Illinois; and Curtice, Northwood and Fostoria, Ohio, where she excelled in the most important and demanding career of all time, motherhood. This eventually led to a promotion in the department of grandmotherhood in which she was oft and adoringly referred to as “Bunga” by her bevy of grandchildren.
Later in life she turned down an early retirement package and in due course mastered the art of great-grandmotherhood with unsurpassed poise and grace.
She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria. She and her husband where very active in their church. Their love of children led them to be Luther League advisors for many years.

Lula E. Yates, 91, of Fostoria, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at Independence House in Fostoria.
She was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Amsden to Samuel B. and Cecelia (Filliater) Huff.
She married Carl Trudel and he died Dec. 4, 1959. She then married Dillard Yates and he died Nov. 9, 1989.
Surviving are four children, Cindy (Steve) Russell, Hilliard, Carla (Rodger) Wilson, Fostoria, Jan (Tonny) Pridgen, Samson, Alabama, and Jim Yates, Fostoria; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Huff, Bloomdale, and Sam Huff, Florida; and a special friend, Vickie Hooper, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Frederick; and two brothers, Albert and Ralph Huff.
Yates was a clerk and cashier at the former Wagner’s IGA in Fostoria.
She graduated in 1941 from Gibsonburg High School, and had been a former auxiliary member of the Fostoria Eagles, Moose and AMVETS. She enjoyed her family and spent time reading, crocheting and making crafts. She was also a former Blue Bird leader and bowler.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wedesnday, Aug. 13, 2014 at Hoening Funeral Home at 242 W. Tiffin St. in Fostoria, and an hour before the funeral Thursday.
